Teen Counselor Application Process & Training Information

Teen Counselor Job Description:

  • Help supervise campers during activities, assemblies, at the pool, in cabins, and may help teach a class
  • Have a genuine concern for children and be able to establish a warm, friendly relationship with campers, assist and guide campers
  • Set an example at all times for the campers—being punctual and attending all camp programs as well as abiding by all rules, policies, and procedures
  • Provide for the safety and well-being of each camp participant at all times
  • Use good judgement and tact when dealing with the campers and resolve situations in a supportive and mature way
  • Cooperate with the adult staff (camp and volunteer)
  • Accept and conduct leadership roles when needed and work as a member of the team when others are in the leadership position

Eligible Applicants:

  • Teen Counselors must be 14 years old by January 1, 2026. 
  • Youth who turn 14 after January 1 will automatically be enrolled in the CIT class at camp.

How to Apply:

  • Written applications open through December 12, 2025.
  • Attendance at one of the In-Person Interview Workshops is required:
    • December 22, 2025
    • January 2, 2026

For New Teen Applicants Only:

  • February 16, 2026 - New Teen Applicant Training
  • February 17, 2026 - In-person Workshop with junior youth

Once selected

  • New selected teen counselors will be required to attend one Shadow Day at Jamestown 4-H Center (Dates TBD). 
  • All selected Teen Counselors will be required to attend training (location TBD) from 6-8 p.m. on: 
    • April 16
    • May 14
    • June 4
    • July 9
  • All selected Teen Counselors will need to attend one Digging Science Club Meeting  from 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Deep Run Recreation Center. Contact Carter to let her know which date you will be attending.

If you will miss a training session, please inform Carter Humphries and Laila Ampy-Thomas immediately.

Teens are encouraged to participate in additional training opportunities. All training listed below are at Jamestown 4-H Center. Transportation is not provided. Contact a 4-H Agent to register for a training.
